Group activities for Dementia patients are at the very core of ADRE’s service.
Our research has helped us create a range of interventions for the benefit of our members. Regular social contact is essential for their mental health and wellbeing and for maintaining connections with the local community. Not only do these events bring together those diagnosed with dementia, but they give carers a chance to meet, relax and share experiences too.
Our main activities include:
Brain Gym
Individual and group activity programmes, developed in partnership with schools in Denmark and Norway, specifically designed to be fun, keep brains and bodies active, and improve self-confidence.
Music in Mind
Small group vocal and body percussion activities based on familiar pieces and songs from all types of music.
Gardening
Gardening combines the benefits of fresh air, exercise, cognitively stimulating tasks and the chance to grow our own produce.
Carpentry
This skilled and stimulating work comes with the satisfaction of making something useful and beautiful. Carried out in the safety of the Lutterworth College workshop under the supervision of our highly experienced volunteer craftsmen.
Walks
Exercise and fresh air are not only beneficial to the body, but they have a restorative effect on our mental wellbeing too.
Coffee mornings
Informal and relaxed opportunities to chat, share experiences and enjoy refreshments along with games, quizzes, singing and topical activities.
Lunches
By preparing and eating lunch together, our members get to work as a team before relaxing and socialising.
At Home support
For those members who aren’t able to engage in the activities at Our House or our community venues, our staff can deliver elements of our service at home. This may be because of health vulnerabilities, reduced mobility, enhanced cognitive decline or remote location. This service has been developed during the COVID19 crisis and now forms a permanent part of our offer.
Seated yoga
A programme tailored to people later in life that utilises the therapeutic effects of yoga.
Dance
Dance combines the benefits of co-ordinated gentle physical activity with the enjoyable and stimulating effects of listening to music.
Arts and crafts
Energising the creative side of our members is vital. Arts and crafts also help improve dexterity and cognitive function.
Love to Move
A dementia friendly gymnastics exercise programme, developed by the British Gymnastics Foundation.
Outings and visits
Varied experiences, new places and having fun are a regular highlight in our timetable. From botanical gardens to sailing there is something for everybody.
